88.7 WPCD FM is the educational, non-commercial radio station of Parkland College. 88.7 broadcasts 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with an indie/alternative rock format. It serves as a hands on learning lab for those students enrolled in the COM 141 and 142 courses at Parkland College. Students polish their skills by working at WPCD in a variety of capacities. Our power of 10,500 watts covers all of Parkland College’s District 505 area and much of East Central Illinois, including Danville, Decatur, Rantoul, Bloomington and all of the Champaign-Urbana area, reaching close to 200,000 people. We also stream worldwide on the internet at wpcd.parkland.edu.
WPCD is located in room X-137.
Students who are enrolled in the COM 141 and 142 are instructed in radio station operation from the standpoint of an on-air DJ and audio producer. Using programs such as Adobe Audition, Wide Orbit, and ProTools, students receive hands-on training in how to create and edit audio files such as public service announcements, promotional commercials, and newscasts, Students are also trained in the use of broadcast equipment and operation, and are eventually assigned a regular on-air shift at the station. Students also have opportunities to participate in promotional events that WPCD sponsors and other activities that WPCD is involved in.
We are a non-commercial radio station so underwriting and donor announcements on 88.7 are given to acknowledge or to publicize those businesses and individuals who support our broadcasting program. • Donor’s Business Name
